Under the IRP, you register your commercial vehicle in your base jurisdiction - the state where your business is established. Your base state issues your credentials: an apportioned license plate and a cab card listing every jurisdiction your vehicle is authorized to operate in. Registration fees are calculated based on miles actually driven per jurisdiction, and your base state distributes those fees on your behalf.
Required for any commercial vehicle crossing state lines that meets one of:
Operating without valid apportioned plates and a current IRP cab card is a legal violation - subject to fines and costly roadside delays.
We are one of the few IRP service providers authorized directly through the California DMV Interstate Carrier Program. This means faster IRP processing, fewer delays, and direct issuance of California apportioned plates and IRP cab cards from our office.
Our entire IRP process is handled online. You submit your details through our form, our specialists prepare and file everything, and your IRP credentials are delivered without you ever stepping foot in a government office. We also offer live phone support for carriers who prefer to speak directly.
Our team focuses exclusively on commercial carrier compliance: IRP, IFTA, trip permits, DOT compliance, and related federal and state requirements. That specialization means fewer errors, faster filings, and a team that genuinely understands the complexities of interstate trucking compliance.
From single-truck owner-operators to multi-state fleets, over 15,000 carriers have trusted IRP Registration Services to keep their apportioned plates valid and their businesses moving. We understand that downtime costs money, which is why we prioritize speed and accuracy in every registration we process.

IRP Registration Services is a website owned and operated by DOT Operating Authority, Inc., a private company based at 1906 W Burbank Blvd, Burbank, CA 91506. We are not a government agency, and we are not affiliated with or endorsed by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) or the U.S. Department of Transportation.
In California we are a California DMV Interstate Carrier Program (ICP)-authorized agent (opens in a new tab), which lets us process IRP registrations and issue apportioned plates, cab cards and decals directly from our office. That authorization applies to California only. In every other jurisdiction we prepare and file your application and follow it through to issuance, but the credentials are produced and released by that jurisdiction.
Our prices are service fees for preparing and filing your application. They are charged in addition to the government registration fees set by each jurisdiction, which are billed separately at cost. You may also file directly with your base jurisdiction's motor vehicle agency (listed at irponline.org (opens in a new tab)) at no service charge.
