This filing is for a business that has legally changed its name while keeping the same tax ID and the same ownership. If ownership is changing too, that is a different matter: it creates a new registrant and usually a new IRP account, with new fees. Tell us which one you are actually doing and we will route it correctly.
Order of operations decides whether this goes smoothly. Federal records should show the new name before your base jurisdiction tries to validate it, because the jurisdiction checks the carrier name against those records. Filed the wrong way round, the IRP update is rejected and you repeat the cycle.
In most cases you keep your existing account and plates, with reissued cab cards showing the new name. A handful of jurisdictions require new plates when the registrant name changes; we confirm yours before you pay rather than after.
