We prepare and file everything required to add a vehicle to an existing IRP account.
This is the filing where speed matters most, because the truck is usually sitting in your yard not earning. Apportioned fees are prorated from the month the vehicle enters service, so adding mid-year does not cost a full year, and your existing fleet's distance percentages are reused — there is nothing new to calculate.
Most jurisdictions issue a temporary registration or a 30-day permit at the time of filing, so the vehicle can operate while the plate and cab card are produced. We request it wherever it exists and tell you straight away if your state is one of the exceptions.
If the taxable gross weight is 55,000 pounds or more you will also need Form 2290 for the federal heavy vehicle use tax. The IRS allows until the last day of the month following first use, and many jurisdictions accept the filing receipt in the meantime — so a recent purchase does not have to hold up your credentials.

What the form actually asks for
Information, not a folder of paperwork. Your USDOT number pulls the carrier record from federal files; everything else is typed in once.

Your most recent IRP cab card — needed for renewals and any change to an existing account.
- IFTA, yes or no
Add quarterly fuel-tax reporting to the same filing, or skip it. Offered on new registrations, renewals, added vehicles and plate transfers.
- Power of attorney
Signed electronically at checkout — initials, typed name and signature. It authorises us to file on your behalf.
California IRP registration — same-day apportioned plates

Every state sets its own registration fees and its own rules under the Plan, so the same truck does not cost the same in California as in Texas.

The declared weight bracket for each unit. Above 80,000 lb is quoted by phone rather than online.
