Registered weight is declared per jurisdiction, and you are only legal up to the figure printed for that state on your cab card. You can be registered at 80,000 pounds in one state and lower in the next, which is exactly why the card lists them separately. Running a perfectly legal load above your registered weight is still an overweight violation.
Worth being clear about what IRP does and does not do here. The Plan sets no legal road weight limits. It uses the weight you declare to calculate fees, determine eligibility and populate your cab card. The limits you actually run against come from federal rules such as the bridge formula and from individual state law.
Increases are typically the fastest change in IRP, because you are paying additional fees rather than asking for money back. Decreases are slower and the outcome varies: several jurisdictions issue a prorated credit toward the rest of the registration year rather than a refund. We request whatever is available and tell you what to expect.

Information, not a folder of paperwork. Your USDOT number pulls the carrier record from federal files; everything else is typed in once.
