About this service

Amend Vehicle Information

We correct the descriptive details of a vehicle already on your account — VIN, year, make, model, unit number, axle count, ownership or lessee.

Changing the registered weight or the registration class is a different filing, because those change what you pay rather than what is described. On the online form all of these share one application type: Amend Vehicle / Weight / Name / Cab Card / Class.

A single wrong character in a VIN deserves more urgency than it usually gets. A cab card whose VIN does not match the vehicle can be read as an invalid registration during an inspection, and it can complicate an insurance claim at exactly the wrong moment. It is a cheap fix compared with what it costs to discover at a scale house.

We compare your title, your insurance and your cab card so all three finally agree, then file the correction as an amendment — faster and cheaper than re-registering the vehicle. Some jurisdictions require a VIN inspection when the VIN itself is being corrected; if yours does, we tell you where to go and what to bring.

Step by step

What happens after you order

The sequence starts when your details are complete. Where a jurisdiction requires something only it can do — an in-person signature, a VIN inspection, a physical plate surrender — we tell you up front and give you the address and the forms to bring.

  1. 01

    You place the order

Tell us what is wrong and what it should say — VIN, year, make, model, unit number, axles, ownership or lessee.

  2. 02

    Three documents compared

Your title, your insurance and your cab card are checked against each other so all three finally agree. If your jurisdiction requires a VIN inspection for a VIN correction, we tell you where to go and what to bring.

  3. 03

    Filed as an amendment

Faster and cheaper than re-registering the vehicle.

  4. 04

    Corrected cab card

Emailed as soon as the state releases it.

Before you start

What the form actually asks for

Information, not a folder of paperwork. Your USDOT number pulls the carrier record from federal files; everything else is typed in once.

01
Who is registering

Your business

5
  • Base jurisdiction

The state where your business is established, where your distance is accrued and where your operational records are kept.

  • Application type

One of ten filings in the dropdown. Pick the closest — a specialist re-routes it before anything is submitted if it is wrong.

  • Registrant type

Individual, Sole Proprietor, LLC, Corporation or Partnership. This decides which owner fields open next.

  • USDOT number

Enter it and the carrier legal name, street address, city, state, ZIP and EIN come back from federal records. If the lookup finds nothing you can type the company details in by hand.

  • Owner / officer details

Individual or Sole Proprietor: registrant full name and SSN. LLC, Corporation or Partnership: officer position, registrant full name, company name and EIN.

02
Entered per power unit

Each vehicle

3
  • VIN

All 17 characters per unit, exactly as they appear on the title.

  • Year, make and model

Entered per vehicle alongside the VIN.

  • Gross vehicle weight

Chosen from 13 brackets, from under 26,000 lb to 80,001 lb and above. The top bracket is quoted by phone.

Credentials & sign-off

  • Current cab card

Your most recent IRP cab card — needed for renewals and any change to an existing account.

  • Vehicle title

Only when the VIN or ownership details have to be verified.

  • Power of attorney

Signed electronically at checkout — initials, typed name and signature. It authorises us to file on your behalf.

California · DMV ICP authorized agent

California IRP registration — same-day apportioned plates

IRP Registration Services is authorized through the California DMV Interstate Carrier Program (ICP), so we process California IRP registrations directly and issue apportioned plates, cab cards and decals from our own office — no DMV queue, no waiting on a mailed plate.

Issued from our office in Burbank, California

  • Authorized under the California DMV ICP — We are permitted to process IRP registrations and issue credentials, not merely submit an application and wait.
  • Plates, cab cards and decals issued in our office — The physical credentials are produced here in Burbank.
  • As little as one business day — For a complete California filing, once your carrier and vehicle details are in.
  • No DMV appointment, no field-office queue — And no separate trip for a VIN verification we can arrange for you.
  • Every California filing type — New registration, renewal, added or deleted vehicles, weight and class changes, transfers, replacements and closures.

ICP authorization applies to California only. In the other 47 states we prepare and file your application and follow it through to issuance, but the credentials are produced and released by that jurisdiction.

Pricing

Your exact price, before you pay anything

IRP pricing is not one flat number, because IRP filings are not one flat job. Four things move it — and all four are answered in the form, so your total is on screen and itemized before any payment is taken.

Your base jurisdiction

Every state sets its own registration fees and its own rules under the Plan, so the same truck does not cost the same in California as in Texas.

The application type

A first-time registration is more work than a cab card reissue. Ten application types, each priced for what it actually involves.

How many vehicles

Priced per vehicle and tiered — the more units on the filing, the lower the per-vehicle fee.

Gross vehicle weight

The declared weight bracket for each unit. Above 80,000 lb is quoted by phone rather than online.

What the service fee covers
  • Our service fee for preparing and submitting the filing
  • An experienced IRP specialist on your file from start to finish
  • USDOT verification and carrier data pulled from federal records
  • A document checklist specific to your jurisdiction and filing
  • All communication with the state, including follow-up until issuance
  • Credentials sent to you the moment the jurisdiction releases them
Charged by the state, not by us
  • State apportioned registration fees, set by your base jurisdiction
  • Title, plate, decal or VIN inspection fees charged by the state
  • Any penalty or late fee a jurisdiction assesses on your account

Apportioned fees are the state's arithmetic, not ours: the share of your fleet's distance run in a jurisdiction, multiplied by that jurisdiction's own registration fee, adjusted for declared weight. We pass those through at cost.

Above 80,000 lb: the top weight bracket is quoted by phone — call (888) 202-4927.
